    The Energy2B project: stimulating environmental entrepreneurship and building an energy infrastructure through institutional entrepreneurship

    The Energy2B Project is an EU funded innovation stimulating initiative that targets university students at five universities across Europe and encourages them to practice environmental entrepreneurship and turn energy innovation ideas into new business start-ups. The project is administered by a European consortium of commercial and academic co-ordinators through an online web platform. The web-platform is used to develop an energy infrastructure that connects diverse stakeholders (including industrial actors, energy bodies and field experts) through the administration of local idea challenges and energy innovation competitions at a local and European level. In this paper, we discuss how the project contributes to the practice of environmental entrepreneurship and explain the projects theoretical significance as a case of institutional entrepreneurship. We also outline the academic deliverables of the project in terms of individual case studies and a survey that measures the project’s effectiveness in accelerating the practice of environmental entrepreneurship.     MIAWARE Software:3D Medical Image Analysis with Automated Reporting Engine and Ontology-based Search

    which was designed and developed for doctor/radiologist assistance. It allows to analyze an image stack from computed axial tomography scan of lungs (thorax) and, at the same time, to mark all pathologies on images and report their characteristics. The reporting process is normalized- radiologists cannot describe pathological changes with their own words, but can only use some terms from a specific vocabulary set provided by the software. Consequently, a normalized radiological report is automatically generated. Furthermore, MIAWARE software is accompanied with an intelligent search engine for medical reports, based on the relations between parts of the lungs. A logical structure of the lungs is introduced to the search algorithm through the specially developed ontology. As a result, a deductive report search was obtained, which may be helpful for doctors while diagnosing patients ’ cases. Finally, the MIAWARE software can be considered also as a teaching tool for future radiologists and physicians.

    A model of infiltrating air flow and its distribution in a room with a double skin façade

    In the paper, the authors analyzed the impact of space and time discretization on the simulation results of air flow through the double skin façade and its distribution in the adjacent zone. Temperature and air flow in the different parts of the room were considered, taking into account the influence of changeable solar irradiation and wind speed. The calculations additionally took into account: geometry of the zone and its position in the building; weather conditions; façade orientation relative to the cardinal directions; size and types of ventilation components in the network flow

    Psychomotor Functions and Interval Timing in Patients Receiving Intravenous Anesthesia for Endoscopic Procedures: The Pilot Study

    Introduction. The aim of this study was to evaluate two measures in a cognitive examination: psychomotor function and the perception of time (PT) in patients after intravenous anesthesia for endoscopic procedures. Material and Methods. We tested 23 anesthetized patients (Anesthesia Group, AG) and 17 not anesthetized patients (Control Group, CG). The Dufour Cross-Shaped Apparatus (DA) was used to assess quick reactions. Perception of time (PT) was measured for 1-, 2-, 5-, and 7-second intervals. The tests were performed before the anesthesia was administered and 1.5, 3, and 6 hours after the procedure was completed. Results. The intervals that were generated and the reproduced visual stimuli were shorter than the patterns. The reproduced 1- and 2-second auditory stimuli were longer than the patterns. The remaining reproduced auditory impulses were shorter than the patterns. Conclusions. In anesthetized patients, quick psychomotor reactions and the ability to time intervals are preserved 1.5 h and later after intravenous anesthesia for endoscopy

    CONSIDERATIONS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPER HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT MODELING IN AIR COOLED ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS

    This paper illustrates, based on a practical example of a hybrid circuit, the influence of proper heat transfer coefficient modelling in air cooled electronic systems on the accuracy of thermal simulations. This circuit contains a transistor heat source and a set of temperature sensors. The measurements of their temperature responses are taken in natural convection and forced air cooling conditions. The experimental data provide the information necessary to estimate the local heat transfer coefficient values in heat source and temperature sensor locations. Moreover, the experiments rendered possible the fitting of parameters of an empirical heat transfer coefficient model for different surface temperature rise values and cooling air velocities, and hence allowed significant improvement of thermal simulation accuracy

    Clinical use of redox biomarkers for diagnosis of male infertility

    The aim of the study was to analyze the activity of antioxidant enzymes (glutathione reductase, catalase, superoxide dismutase) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in a population of men with abnormal semen parameters and in a population of men diagnosed with normozoospermia. This study was performed using data collected at the Infertility Treatment Clinic ‚Genesis’ , Bydgoszcz, Poland, between 1 January 2011 and 31 December 2017. A total number of 321 men meeting the inclusion criteria were selected and divided into the control group (162 men) and the infertility group (159 men). The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione reductase (GR) were measured using ready-made kits; lipid peroxidation intensity was determined by the thiobarbituric acid method. No statistically significant differences were found for the activity of SOD, GR, CAT between the groups. MDA values measured in the serum of patients in the healthy group were higher than in the group with semenological disorders. Although our study did not demonstrate the usefulness of the above blood tests, further studies are needed to explore the potential use of assessing redox parameters to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for male infertility
